Violino Niklas Walentin
Violoncello David Eggert
In collaborazione con l'Archivio di Stato di Terni
NIKLAS WALENTIN is Danish/Swiss, born in 1994. He began playing violin at the age of six with no musical ancestors or basis for adopting music. He made his debut from the Royal Danish Music Academy in 2017 and has twice received the grant The Young Elite from the Arts Council as both soloist and as member of Trio Vitruvi – besides numerous other prizes and grants including Music Reviewer’s Artists Prize and Talent Prize of the year by Danish National Radio P2. Despite his young age he has already toured both as soloist and member of the Trio Vitruvi in multiple European countries, Japan, China and the US, and given concerts in some of the most prestigious halls – among these Carnegie Hall in New York, and equally collaborated with several great international conductors. He has been described as having a unique style of playing, which combines strong traditional, and old-fashioned methods with an innovative approach to the world of classical music. He plays on a Joannes Franciscus Pressenda /Q. Raphael-violin (Torino 1837) kindly lent to him by the Augustinus Fund.
DAVID EGGERT appears in concert halls as soloist and chamber musician from St. Petersburg and Istanbul to Boston and Vienna to critical acclaim and disdain, re-evaluating the traditional canon, improvising, studying, making art music more open, finding the forgotten, neglected gems, and following the spirit of creativity in old and new compositions. Eggert won first prizes at the 2008 international cello competition Antonio Janigro in Zagreb and received honorary awards at the naumburg international cello competition in New York. Eggert grew up in Sherwood Park, Canada, and grew up singing in choirs and playing chamber music, first in the family string quartet and later with professional ensembles. He recently co-established the Trio Grisart, a group intent on elevating the standard string trio repertoire to that of the quartet, as well as actively promoting unjustly neglected and contemporary compositions. He has collaborated in the past with Marino Formenti, Rainer Schmidt, Veronika Hagen, Benjamin Schmid, Menachem Pressler, Pavel Gililov, and members of the Vienna Piano Trio. An adamant proponent of sounds and concepts of the contemporary art music, he has appeared in festivals in Europe, North America, and the middle east, performing world premiers, working with composers, and experimenting with kindred pioneers of new music.
