David Eggert was taught by Tanya Prochazka, Laurence Lesser, Matt Haimovitz, Clemens Hagen, and Rainer Schmidt, and has played his cello in many countries around the world. He won prizes at international cello competitions in Zagreb, Stuttgart and New York and became professor at the conservatory in Bern 8 years ago, and has taught in Narni since shortly after its inception. He has dedicated his career to calling into question the established practices of classical music, experimenting with new and ancient formats of sharing art music with the people. He occasionally performs with famous people, and the critical response to his performances are mixed.
Eggert plays the viola da gamba and was musical director of an avant-garde music theatre company in Berlin for seven years. Among his interests are pedagogy, historically informed performance practice research, improvization in many styles, indian Konnakol rhythm, choreography, contemporary music, choral singing, installation art, electro-acoustic music, classical antiquity, folk music, the recitation of poetry, and story-telling. Eggert was born in Sherwood Park, Canada into a musical family, and is 38 years young.
